| DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTRUMENT | |
| Type Of Measure | Scale |
| Brief Description |
Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease (SEMCD) scale has been widely used to evaluate self-efficacy of many chronic diseases as systemic sclerosis, arthritis, diabetes, heart and lung diseases, and their self-management programs. The SEMCD consists of six items on a 1 to 10 scale, with 1 anchored by ‘‘not at all confident’’ and 10 ‘‘totally confident.’’ |
| Number of Items | 6 |
| Range | 1-10 |
| Responses options/scale |
Yes 1-10 |
| Developed for | Research, Clinical practice |
| PRACTICAL APPLICATION | |
| Method of administration | Self-administered |
| Recommendations to score |
The scale is computed as the mean of the six items. If more than two of the six items are missing, the scale is set to missing. |
| Score Interpretation | Higher scores indicate higher self-efficacy |
| Cut-off points | --- |
| Cut-off points applied to | --- |
| Smallest detectable change if described | --- |
| Smallest detectable change applied to | --- |
| Completion time by the patient | - minutes |
| Scoring time by the assessor | - minutes |
| Training to score | Not necessary |
| Strengths | Useful in clinical practice & research, Easy to use |
| Limitations | --- |
