The reliabilityof 1988 Rowe score was acceptable (>0.70) for the domains pain and stability and for the total score.

The reliability was acceptable only for the domain stability and for the total score, except for 25 points in examiner B. For the categorical score (total units), there were significant differences between the two examiners for both the 25 pain points version and the 15 pain points version (P < .001).

The 1988 version of the Rowe score was developed by an expert opinion and was not tested after modern criteria, with item selection and item reduction based on tests on a target population and a consensus group. Some of the questions were double-barreled, indicating that the patient was asked to answer more than one question at the time. Some of the patients reported that it was difficult to choose an alternative response

Brief Description

The total 1988 Rowe score was significantly different in patients above and below 45 years in 2 of 8 comparisons, but P values were >.15 when adjusted for multiple comparisons. For the domains stability and Rowe score, correlations were <.20.
