DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTRUMENT
Type Of Measure Questionnaire
Brief Description

The Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire is an instrument covering both work and daily activity impairments. Its six items ascertain employment status and quantify absenteeism due to health problems, presenteeism and overall health-related impairment in both paid work and regular activities over the previous 7 days. Four outcomes can be derived: i) percent of work time missed due to health; ii) percent of impairment while working due to health in past 7 days; iii) percent of overall work impairment overall; iv) activity impairment due to health

Developed for Research, Clinical practice
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Method of administration Self-administered
Recommendations to score

The WPAI-RA consists of six questions- similar to the WPIA:GH but with adaptations for referring to RA.

Four main outcomes can be generated from the WPAI-RA and expressed in percentages by multiplying the following scores by 100: 1) percent work time missed due to health = Q2/(Q2 + Q4) for those who were currently employed; 2) percent impairment while working due to health = Q5/10 for those who were currently employed and actually worked in the past seven days; 3) percent overall work impairment due to health Q2/(Q2 + Q4) + ((1 - Q2/(Q2 + Q4)) × (Q5/10)) for those who were currently employed; 4) percent activity impairment due to health Q6/10 for all respondents

Score Interpretation Greater scores indicate greater impact on health
