| Brief Description |
The GAS was developed in 2016 within a longitudinal analysis of a multicenter cohort study (the KING study) across 30 rheumatology clinics in Italy, with the aim of deriving a new composite disease activity score for gout that would incorporate both patient-reported and objective measures. The GAS collects information, including number of gout flares, serum urate levels, general well-being (in the form of a visual analog scale [VAS]), and number of gouty tophi. There are no subscales in the GAS. Data are compiled by the clinician and applied to the GAS formula. The number of gout flares item relies on patient recall and the VAS requires patient participation. |
