| DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTRUMENT | |
| Type Of Measure | Composite Index |
| Brief Description |
The SDAI combines single measures into an overall continuous measure of RA disease activity, integrating measures of physical examination, acute phase response, patient self-assessment, and evaluator assessment without transformation or weighting to simplify the assessment of disease activity in clinical practice. It is feasible to use for monitoring of RA disease activity in daily clinical practice. The Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI) is derived from SJC and TJC of a 28-joint count, the C-reactive protein (CRP in mg/dl), the VAS-GH (scored 0–10), and the VAS of physician's health assessment (VAS-PH scored 0–10). |
| Number of Items | 5 |
| Range | Lower limit 0, upper limit 86 (or unlimited depending on CRP limit) |
| Responses options/scale |
No |
| Developed for | --- |
| PRACTICAL APPLICATION | |
| Method of administration | Self-administered |
| Recommendations to score |
Calculated by adding the 5 items together: SDAI = 28SJC + 28TJC + PrGA + PtGA + CRP. PrGA and PtGA are in cm VAS; CRP in mg/dl. |
| Score Interpretation | The higher the more activity, the lower range of the SDAI is 0, with the upper end resting on the upper limit of CRP level, often defined as 10 mg/dl, leading to an upper limit of 86. |
| Cut-off points | remission (SDAI ≤3.3), low (3.3 < SDAI ≤ 11), moderate (11 < SDAI ≤ 26), or high (SDAI >26) |

| Completion time by the patient | 3 minutes |
| Scoring time by the assessor | 3 minutes |
