| DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTRUMENT | |
| Type Of Measure | Questionnaire |
| Brief Description |
The PAS and PASII combine single measures into an overall continuous measure of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity. The PAS and PASII include a patient assessment of pain on a 10‐cm visual analog scale (VAS), patient global assessment of disease activity (PtGA) on a 10‐cm VAS, and the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) for the PAS or the Health Assessment Questionnaire‐II (HAQII) for the PASII. |
| Number of Items | 3 |
| Range | 0-10 |
| Responses options/scale |
Yes 0-10 VAS, HAQ |
| Developed for | Clinical practice, Research |
| PRACTICAL APPLICATION | |
| Method of administration | Self-administered |
| Recommendations to score |
The HAQ and HAQII range from 0–3. The patient assessment of pain and PtGA VAS both range from 0–10. The PAS is calculated by multiplying the HAQ by 3.33 and then dividing the sum of the VAS pain, PtGA, and HAQ by 3. For the PASII, the HAQ is replaced by the HAQII. PAS II = (A x 3.33 + B + C) / 3, where A = HAQ-II, calculated by averaging selected points from table below; B = VAS Pain; C = PtGA |
| Score Interpretation | PAS= Remission 0.00-0.25, Low/minimal 0.26-3.70, Moderate 3.71-7.99, High/severe 8.00-10.00. |
