Item pool for LupusPRO was derived from patient interviews. The interviews and item pool generation were guided by a medical literature review on SLE and HRQOL/QOL, psychosocial literature in SLE, existing HRQOL/QOL tools, and input from clinicians with backgrounds in lupus/rheumatology and psychology.

Brief Description

On principal component analysis (HRQOL items), 6 loadings were observed. Lupus symptoms and cognition items loaded together, whereas physical health and pain-vitality items loaded together. The 6 domains (eigenvalue > 1) explained 72% of the cumulative variance.

Similarly, non-HRQOL items loaded on 3 domains and explained 73% of the cumulative variance. Coping and social support domains loaded together.

To evaluate criterion validity it was performed correlations of LupusPRO domains and HRQOL score with disease activity and damage measures.

Correlation between lupus symptoms domain and disease activity measures ranged from -0.23 to -0.47; correlation

of HRQOL score with disease activity measures ranged from -0.29 to -0.32 (see table 2 in the paper for more details)
