| DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTRUMENT | |
| Type Of Measure | Questionnaire |
| Brief Description |
PASE questionnaire is a brief and easily scored survey designed specifically to assess physical activity in epidemiologic studies of persons age 65 years and older. It interrogates the time spent engaging in physical activity in various settings: at work, at home, and during leisure time. The older adult is asked how many days per week, and how much time was spent in each activity over the past week, graded in four categories: less than one hour, one but less than two hours, two to four hours and more than four hours. Was designed for epidemiological studies and exercise interventions, and can be administered by telephone, mail or in person. |

| PRACTICAL APPLICATION | |
| Method of administration | Interviewer/assessor, Online/Mail based, Self-administered |
| Recommendations to score |
There are a set of item weights for the PASE questionnaire that were stablished using principal component analysis and regression techniques. Total PASE scores are computed by multiplying activity weights by activity frequencies, scores given as a total score. It uses frequency, duration, and intensity level of activity over the previous week to assign a score, ranging from 0 to 793. |
| Score Interpretation | Higher scores indicating greater physical activity. |
