DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTRUMENT
Type Of Measure Composite Index
Brief Description

The CDAI is analogous to the Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI). CDAI takes into account the following items:

  • TJC28: The number of tender joints (0-28).
  • SJC28: The number of swollen joints (0-28).
  • PaGH: The patient global health assessment (from 0=best to 10=worst).
  • PrGH: The care provider global health assessment (from 0=best to 10=worst).
Number of Items 4
Range 0-76
Responses options/scale No
Developed for Both
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Method of administration Physician
Recommendations to score

Add up all results:  28SJC + 28TJC + PrGA +PaGA

Score Interpretation The higher the score the higher the disease activity, and it can be interpreted as remission (CDAI ≤2.8), low (2.8 < CDAI ≤ 10), moderate (10 < CDAI ≤ 22), or high (CDAI >22)
Cut-off points REM≤2.8; LDA >2.8 to 10; MDA >10 to 22; HDA >22
Cut-off points applied to Both
Smallest detectable change if described SDDs (MDC%) to detect a true improvement or deterioration with 95% confidence was 8.05 (10.6%)
Smallest detectable change applied to ---
Completion time by the patient - minutes
Scoring time by the assessor 2-5 minutes
Training to score Not necessary
Strengths Easy to use, Useful in clinical practice & research
Limitations ---
