| Brief Description |
The AUSCAN is a self-report measure to assess hand pain, stiffness, and hand function in persons with osteoarthritis. There are 3 scales: pain, stiffness, and function. Pain is assessed at rest and during activities, including gripping, lifting, turning, and squeezing objects, while stiffness refers to morning stiffness upon waking. The function items ask about difficulty turning, fastening, opening, carrying, grabbing, and squeezing various objects. There are 2 versions: the Likert version (AUSCAN LK 3.0) and the VAS version (AUSCAN VA 3.0). |

For the Likert version (AUSCAN LK 3.0): sub-scale scores calculated by summing up the scores of the individual components. The authors also suggest an overall score generated by totalling the three sub-scale scores. For the VAS version (AUSCAN VA 3.0), items are scored on a 0-100 visual analogue scale. Computer scoring is not necessary. There are no instructions for handling missing values. |
